Every day we’re challenged to balance a wide variety of things in life.
Our diets.
Our checkbooks. (I’m really dating myself!)
Our chakras.
Our tires.
Our time.
Our bodies and minds.
Our work and personal lives.
I can’t count how many times I’ve said “I’m working on balancing this better.”
I’ve been told I go from one extreme to the next. You may have noticed my attempts at balancing the Breadcrumb Trail. One week the topic is the totalitarianism infiltrating our nation and the next week is back to Scripture and highlights of God’s Word, The Bread of Life.
Balance generally means equal distribution. To me it also means the perfect mix, even if each component is not the same weight. Sometimes the best recipes include a secret ingredient. A tiny pinch of something that makes all the difference in bringing the rest of the flavors to perfect balance and palatable perfection. Some recipes call for a little bit more of one ingredient and a little less of another.
In order for us to balance any or all of the items mentioned above, we also need a secret ingredient. This ingredient can not be of equal distribution. It has to weigh more and take up more space in our life than anything else. The secret ingredient is Jesus and making Him a priority in our life.
There is a noticeable difference in my day and the order in which it flows when I make it a priority to start my day with Him. That same difference is made based on how many times I direct my focus back to Him throughout the day, especially when things aren’t going my way.
Cancelling my worry by relying more heavily on Him and not my own ways.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Cancelling my fear by relying more heavily on His promises to us.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Cancelling my anger by relying more heavily on His authority and judgement.
“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?” James 4:12
When everything becomes off balance, He is the One who restores my soul and provides the equilibrium I so desperately need. When we place more weight on Him, He provides us with the balance beam of life.
May God bless and protect our country and everyone reading.
