Let’s face it, the world we live in today is BUSY. Everywhere you look someone is hustling and bustling. It seems busyness today is a competition among many. I know folks who even wear their busyness as some sort of badge of honor.
Regardless of the tasks we all have at hand, we know that time is precious and limited, therefore we want to feel confident in our investment in the tasks we take on. It’s a natural tendency to question if a particular task is “worth our while.”
It’s also common practice to determine another person’s “worthiness.” We do this when we enter new relationships and in the work place. We ask ourselves, “Is this person worth it?’ “Is this person worth our time and investment in them?”
If you’re anything like me, you may have also found yourself questioning your own worth every once in a while. When we don’t think we deserve something, for example a great gift from someone, we might catch ourselves silently thinking or even proclaiming, “I’m not worthy!”
At one point I found myself saying this on a daily basis. “I’m not worthy.” I wasn’t depressed or down in my spirits, it actually came up in prayer every night. It went like this,
“Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to be the Light of the world. Thank You Jesus, for suffering and dying on the cross for me so that my sins could be forgiven and I could share eternity with you. I am not worthy, but I am thankful.”
Looking back, I realized I felt like I didn’t deserve the gift God gave me. I often went to sleep feeling undeserving and a bit guilty, even though my heart was filled with gratitude. Then one night, something changed. A light bulb went off! I’d like to share the message I received as it was a life changing moment.
YOU ARE WORTHY.
THAT’S WHY I SAVED YOU.
Whoa. Cue the emotional impact this had on me. For the first time, I realized that if God didn’t deem me worthy, if God didn’t deem ANY of us worthy, He would never have sent Jesus to be our Savior.
This hit me like a ton of bricks. Ever since that night, when I question whether or not I deserve something, like my amazing husband or a job that I enjoy working, I remember that He deemed me worthy, and blood was shed because of it.
The next time you find yourself questioning your own worth regarding anything, remember that our Creator already placed us in the worthy category.
Remember, that we must embrace and honor our worth, in order for His sacrifice to be worthwhile. This works if you work it. So work it, you’re worth it!
