Fall is debatably the most magnificent season. It gets my vote for one specific reason. Not only do I love the leaves, foliage, sweaters and lattes that come with it, but because it’s when we get to see just how beautiful change can be. 🍁
Change comes in many shapes and forms, but there are generally 3 variables that are the cause:
🟢 Gaining something, like having a baby or winning the lottery.
🔴 Losing something, like the death of a loved one or termination from a job.
🟠 Transformation, like learning a new way to think. (In general or a specific situation.)
When change involves a loss, it’s not uncommon to feel sad or angry. I got some news about a month ago that generated these feelings in me, until I remembered Job 1:21.
“The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.”
While some could read this and justify shaking a fist at God, let me share with you what I’ve learned and how it’s currently influencing me, comforting me and changing the way I feel about an upcoming change.
Every single thing (we all) have comes from God.
Believing that God has created every single thing in this world, means that every single thing in this world, including all I (and you) have, really belongs to Him. 🙏
From jobs, to relationships, to the clothes in my closet and the money in my pocket, there are no exclusions. These do not belong to me. They were shared with me.
Shared by a God who is gracious enough and loves me enough to let me experience His miraculous ways.
Changing my thinking from “this is mine” to “this is His” increases both the gratitude and appreciation I have. 💕
This belief and shift in my thinking makes the tough changes we all experience, a little less painful and a little more joyful. Joyful because we can look at the change and smile knowing it was a perfect gift, a glimpse of the endless joy available to us in eternity.
We can be thankful that we were able to experience something so marvelous.
Next week, I will watch a moving truck slowly drive out of my apartment complex. In it will be two people that have greatly contributed to the most beautiful changes and joyful experiences of my life.
My beloved downstairs neighbors, Ron and Judy Warpole, will be moving from the apartment below me to a local Christian Care Center.
There are some experiences in life, that we cannot chalk up to coincidence or luck. There are relationships that are unquestionably formed by the hand and grace of God.
My relationship with Ron and Judy is one of them.
Side Note: Next week I will share how this came to be!
At first, my heart was broken. I thought the situation was unfair and a feeling of loss immediately set in.
Then I remembered how I came to be in a position to feel this way to begin with. In almost an instant, my heart erupted with praise and thanksgiving.
My shift in perception won’t stop the tears from falling when they depart, but it will comfort me and affirm in me just how good God is.
It will help honor a beautiful gift from above.
The best way to honor the gifts God gives us is to receive with open arms and let go with a grateful heart ♥️
