Hi, my name is Maria, and I’m an addict. My drug of choice is Freedom. Would you like to use with me?
Freedom is a concept which has motivated me in many situations throughout my life. I didn’t realize it at the time, but freedom was the desired outcome of quitting a substance abuse problem, paying off all of my debt, leaving a respectable career to become an Entrepreneur, and even doing all the dreadful and painful self-work that was required to overcome some deeply rooted core negative beliefs.
These personal achievements are all quite different from one another, and this list is not all inclusive. There is one common denominator across the board though, and that was the desire to feel free.
Back in 2008 I was introduced to something called “The Secret”, which I learned was really “The Law of Attraction”. These are theories that state that whatever you put out, in thoughts, words, and actions, is what you receive back.
I had always believed in and prayed to God, and I continued to do so after learning these theories, but, I started thinking about how I was mentally and verbally expressing the desires of my heart.
I realized that if in fact it was true that what you “put out” is exactly what you get back (multiplied even!) then, I was doing it all wrong. For example, if I was focusing on and praying that I wanted to quit smoking, what would come back is the desire to want to quit smoking.
I found this interesting, and very limiting, so I started thinking about what my desired outcome was, and how I could present it in a way that would be positive if it was reflected back to me.
“I want to quit smoking” turned into “I am smoke free. Thank you, God, for a smoke free life.”
“I want to pay off all of my debt” turned into “I am financial freedom. Thank you, God, for financial freedom.”
If we were able to compile a list of every American citizen’s desired personal freedom, it would be, without a doubt, an eclectic and extensive list. Regardless of what the individual items were, as a Nation, there are two truths we could apply, the ultimate common denominators:
AMERICAN FREEDOM and AMERICAN PRIVILEGE.
Since no other country in the world affords its citizens the opportunity to live their life however they see fit, so long as they are not hurting another, it is an undeniable truth that American Freedom and Privilege is the common denominator of all people in the United States.
Of all the freedoms I have experienced throughout my life, my most beloved, is my American Freedom.
Economic, personal, religious, and national take the top spots.
It was a thought worth pondering when I started feeling a strong need to defend those freedoms. Then I asked myself, how exactly does one do that?
It finally hit me, that to defend those privileges, I must apply the same concept that has previously yielded my best results.
It is the road less traveled and the path most turned off. It’s the fork in the road and the breadcrumb eaten by a bird. It’s the hardest choice, but, the most rewarding.
It’s the choice to choose Courage over Comfort. To go against the grain as a free thinker and to speak your truth, unapologetically.
This is my podium.
Welcome to the Breadcrumb Trail
